Cards for soldiers for 2009

CARD SPECIFICATIONS: All cards should be A2 size (one half of an 81/2" x 11" sheet of cardstock, folded in half). This size card will fit the envelopes donated already for our Program. If you make a larger card, please be sure to clip an envelope that fits with it. Leave the cards blank on the inside, with a self-stick note from you (or your child) to the soldier if desired.

GENERAL OCCASION CARDS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME with any of the rounds below. These cards include: birthday, miss you, thank you, love you, get well, retirement, sympathy, welcome new baby, etc. Don't forget to do some of the birthday, etc. cards for children.

Round 9: Cards should be received by Nov. 6, 2009 - Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanza, New Years Day Cards.

HOW THE CARDS ARE USED. When the cards are received by Chaplain Banks, he puts them in a central location where the soldiers can go and select a card to send to a loved one, friend/relative. The soldier selects a card, opens it, reads the message to him that we have placed on the sticky note, removes the sticky note and writes his own message to the person for whom he has selected the card and sends it on its way. So not only do we get to use up our scraps when we make these cards but we get double use out of them which really makes our time we spend making these cards really worthwhile.

Can this be store bought or does it have to be homemade? I trying to find out what our church can do for the soldiers. I want something everyone can be involved in.
